OpenBuildings Designer
Multi-disciplinary : Thanks to a shared set of BIM tools and workflows, collaboration between architects, engineering engineers, electricians and structural engineers is improved.
Interoperability : You integrate data into various formats within your BIM model and work easily on projects of all sizes. The software is certified for IFC 2×3 and IFC 4.x BIM communication. It also generates the rich iModel format.
Information-rich deliverables : You clearly communicate your design intent with reliable deliverables that you can easily customize.
Construction performance : Simulate buildings and plan the performance of the asset in real-life conditions quickly and accurately, to explore the different options for iterative refining.
Unlimited design environment : You can freely model everything from buildings to simple or extremely complex geometries and designs.

Key features of OpenBuildings Designer

Analysis of the performance of a construction system

Optimize your design choices by simulating the performance of your model BIM in real conditions. Quickly identify the best solutions through accurate performance evaluation of the construction system. From the first steps, guide your decisions with conceptual energy analyses that provide key data: maximum loads, annual energy consumption, CO emissions2 and fuel costs.

Design complex MEP systems to ensure high performance buildings. Model complete parametric systems, including air treatment, piping and piping. Also plan lighting, power supply, fire detection and other electrical subsystems accurately.

Benefit from an all-in-one solution of architectural, electrical, mechanical and structural design tools. Thanks to a unified design environment and optimized processes, your projects gain coordination. Integrated conflict detection facilitates resolution, while sharing annotations and documents between teams reduces the risk of errors.

Generate reliable and high quality documents directly from your smart BIM models. Make sure your drawings are always up-to-date and accurately reflect your design by publishing views of the model. Connect specifications, engineering calculations and equipment documentation to models and designs to simplify construction operations.

Design and plan buildings or installations of all sizes, even the most complex, using advanced architecture tools. Produce consistent documentation directly from your BIM model. Easily generate floor plans, cuts, elevations and schedules for all architectural elements

Accelerate your designs with dynamic modelling and flexible geometry manipulation. Explore a wider range of possibilities and quickly analyze multiple scenarios. Design freely, modeling elements of all shapes, sizes and complexity, without any limitations or constraints.

Model steel, concrete and wood structures, including walls, foundations, columns and other structural elements. Automatically generate plans, structural diagrams, cuts and elevations. Also integrate retail tools, such as application Prostructures Bentley Systems, for even more precise designs.

Visualize your models and perfect your designs with realistic renderings. Produce photorealistic quality images and animations, with striking details, all without requiring additional software

OpenBuildings is the most flexible BIM application for large multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

The OpenBuildings (MicroStation) CAD kernel is shared by most Bentley applications, making it highly versatile for geometry-intensive projects such as large infrastructure. It is easy to create a generic 3D CAD geometry like tunnel or road geometry, and to add data at a later stage to transform geometric models into real BIM models. The federated model system based on referenced DGNs is also very flexible and makes it easy to structure the work with OpenBuildings – like all other Bentley tools – for large teams. It can be used without problems not only on an EDMS system like that offered by Bentley (ProjectWise) but even on local systems like a server-based business network.
