How to copy the preferences and configuration of MicroStation V8i to a new PC
NOTE : This article is intended for experienced MicroStation users who are comfortable with using Windows file browsers and MicroStation configuration files.
Note that the file « .UPF » must be copied only if the source and target PCs have the same version of MicroStation installed. If this is not the case , user preferences should be defined on the new PC from zero , in order to avoid any risk of incompatibility.
Steps to be completed
Copy user preferences (file « .UPF »)
- On the source computer, open MicroStation with any file and open the keypad dialog box (menu Utilities -> Keyboard input)
NOTE : In the first screen opened by MicroStation To select the file to open, three lists are available at the bottom right: User, Project and Interface. Note the name displayed in the list « User » - Run the following command in this window: $ % $ explore ( _USTN_HOMEPREFS ) – This will open Windows Explorer and display the content of your user preferences folder
- Copy the contents of this folder to a USB stick or network folder accessible by both PCs
- Repeat points (1) and (2) on the target PC
- Close all instances of MicroStationbut keep Windows Explorer window open.
- Remove the contents of this folder and replace it with the data saved on the USB drive or in the network folder used in point (3)
Copy user configuration (file « .UCF »)
- On the source computer, open MicroStation with any file and open the keypad dialog box (menu Utilities -> Keyboard input)
- Run the following command in this window: $ % $ explore ( _USTN_USER ) – This will open Windows Explorer and display the content of your user folder
- Copy file « .ucf » corresponding to the user name noted in the previous procedure point of (1) on a USB drive or network folder accessible by both computers
- Repeat points (1) and (2) on the target computer and copy the file « .ucf » saved on the USB drive or in the network folder.
When you restart MicroStation, you should see the old « User » available in the first screen of MicroStation (« Open File »).
