Problem

Each time OpenBuildings Designer Update 6 or AECOSim Building Designer V8i Ss6 are open on a specific workstation, they block. The user has been able to open both products previously on the same machine and can still open them when connected to another workstation, so it does not seem to be a problem related to user profile or authorisations. However, if another user connects to this workstation, both applications will crash. We tried to reinstall them, generate new preference files, remove the temp folder, etc., but nothing did.

Solution

It was discovered that the user had installed the PKPM analysis software on this machine, and something in this installation was in conflict with OpenBuildings Designer Update 6 and AECOSim Building Designer Ss6. The uninstallation enabled both applications to function properly. According to the exception.log file, failure was at the kernel/platform level and included lines referring to "StrongNameSignatureVerification" which relates to signature validation in fully reliable .NET domains.
