Regenerating preference files to help solve random behaviors
Problem
I suddenly encounter strange problems, mistakes and behaviors in OpenBuildings Designer. For example:
- When I open a DGN file for the first time after starting OpenBuildings Designer, I want the view windows to appear as I left them when I closed the file. I checked Save settings at output, but windows are automatically reorganized.

Solution
For a strange intermittent behavior, we recommend you first try to regenerate your local prefs files:
- Close OpenBuildings Designer.
- Use Windows Explorer to access your prefs folder, which is by default in C:Usersvotre.nameAppDataLocalBentleyOpenBuildingsDesigner10.0.0xxxxxxxxx.
This location is defined by the configuration variable TFDIR_PREFS. - You can also check the location of preferences by choosing File > Settings > Settings > About the configuration in CONNECT Edition or Workspace > About Workspace in V8i.
- Rename the prefs folder as "prefs123" or similar.
- Restart OpenBuildings Designer.
This will generate a new set of preference files that can help solve these random problems.
